Week Two 2017/2018 Season

Claremont Jets juniors and seniors verses Perth Blitz did not go to plan, with both teams losing to more experienced opposition.

Juniors:

A tough day at the office for Claremont Jets Juniors as they failed to put any points on the board for the first time in recent memory.

With a team made up of new Jets players in just their second game, it was always going to be tough against an experienced and older squad in the Blitz.

From the start the Blitz found their feet and were able to run the opening drive up the field for the opening score and two point conversion. In contrast the Jets punted away their first two possessions in a hard first quarter. In the second quarter the Jets with the backs to the endzone had a blocked punt fly backwards and out of play for a safety and two more points for the Blitz.

In the second quater the Jets lead by quaterback Marcus Westlake began to move the ball on a series of powerful runs by Zach Evers only for a Blitz interception to hand the momentum back to the Blitz who passed for another touchdown two plays later. The two point attempt was intercepted by Ben Moran of the Jets and run back 60 yards and almost broke free for defensive conversion that would have put two points on the scoreboard for the Jets. Half time score Blitz 22 Jets 0.

With every play giving the new Jets players added experience the second half was a much tighter affair with a couple of impressive Jets drives, only for each to come up fruitless after going for it on fourth down a couple of times.

The Blitz added two more touchdowns in the half to leave the final score Perth Blitz Juniors 36 Claremont Jets Juniors 0.

Seniors: With the number of new players starting for the Jets for the first time, the match against the Blitz was expected to be the steepest of learning curves, and so it proved to be against a team largely intact from last season’s squad.

Final score Perth Blitz 32 Claremont Jets 12.

Take note however, the Jets big pre-season recruitment drive has found some genuine talents who learn fast. Watch this space.
